Training Committee Minutes
5/23/06
Present:
Denise Berridge (Family Tree), Beth Nixon (Savio), Melissa Maile (Catholic
Family Charities), Tracy Thayer (Tennyson Center), Katie Mason (CAFCA), and
Renee Johnson (Third Way Center) Chair.
Annual
Conference: "Staying on Track" -
June 23rd 2006
- Bethany
Lutheran Church -
Located on Hampden and Colorado Blvd.
- Catered
by Lookout Mountain School - Continental
Breakfast and Buffet style lunch. Renee needs to coordinate with Chef Campe.
$17 per person, 100 to 150 people
- Cap
at 150 people.
- We
have 6 sponsors, possibility for more. We
are under what we got for sponsorships last year, but there is still time.
Need tables for sponsors, and can set up in the hall area.
- 14
entries for awards, but there is still some time. Bonnie McNulty, Anne Robinson, Katie and Renee are on
the "decision committee". Katie will order the plaques. Discussed
the possibilities for prizes - lunch for teams, Starbucks, Einstein's,
Louis's Chocolate (which Denise is checking in to). We needed to know
location of the awards recipients, and need to do more of the detail work.
- Brochure
looks great! Thanks Beth. Considering
we blew the budget with the "save the date" mailings, we are using
the internet primarily to advertise. Katie was taking care of the mailings
to the agencies that attended last year, rather than to individuals. Also
Melissa was going to see about advertising on the State Website. Early
registration ends June 9th.
- Coffee
Bar for $275 - 8
to 10am, all the coffee we can drink or they can make.
- Keynote
- Marguerite McCormack - "Secondary Trauma". $200
- Decided
to wait until next meeting to determine who would be at which workshop - to
introduce and give gift.
- Gift
ideas were associated with mugs and coffee, or gift certificates.
- Conference
evaluations and certificates of attendance need to be worked out.
- Cake
to honor Association's
25th Anniversary. Maybe a table with some honorable mentions.
- We
need green and purple (CAFCA colors) folders -to include evaluation forms, pen, pads, etc. Katie will print out
labels for folders.
- RJ needs to make contact with Rhonda at Bethany to
determine rooms available, and general layout, with Beth's assistance.
2nd Quarter
Workshop: "Lights, Camera, Action" with Charlie Appelstein -
5/11/06
- Great
success, made money on it, and we received positive feedback in general.
- Charlie
stole the cord, however Katie saved the day by buying Sean the tech guy with
the state a new one.
- Needed
to hand out the evaluation forms sooner, so that people could fill out and
leave as they left. We did not get many back.
3rd Quarter Workshop: "Cultural
Competencies" - American Humane Society
- 8/25/06
- Place - Want to check
out possibility of Fort Logan Auditorium.
- Glitch in plan -
Virginia, the presenter, has left the agency. However another from American
Humane has agreed to join and assist with the workshop.
- All day workshop so
need to look into caterers, thinking about box lunches, or something very
casual.
- Both Beth and Denise
were going to follow through on their leads. (The Center, and African
American leadership institute)
- We will need to work on
these details soon after Educational Conference.
4th Quarter Workshop: "Holiday
Triggers" November 10th
- Place - Need to check
in to VOA or Humphries Mansion
- Julie Alvarado may be
interested, has been talking to Katie. A few other possibilities for
presenters were brought up as well, if Julie wasn't available, or too
expensive.
New Business:
- Adoption Committee is
interested in a workshop/training on relinquishment and prebirth notices
with Kurt Olsson. 1/2 day training on a Thurs or Friday in July. We didn't
have a lot of time to discuss at this meeting.
Next Meeting: June 13th at 1pm. Take note that this meeting
will take place at CAFCA
