CAFCA Training Committee Minutes

4/18/06 

Present: Renee Johnson, chair (Third Way Center), Beth Nixon (Savio), Virginia Longoria (American Humane Association), Melissa Maille (Catholic Charities) and Denise Berridge (Family Tree).

 2nd Quarter Workshop: "Lights, Camera, Action! Youth Care goes to the Movies" - Charlie Appelstein

5/11/06 - Fort Logan Auditorium.

• Beth, Denise and Renee will work it. Virginia and Melissa will possibly work
• Renee will check with Katie about number of participants
• Renee will also look into coffee bar.
• Need to follow up on equipment needs
• Katie - certificates
• Catering - $5 per person, Lookout is doing. Renee or Katie will let them in

3rd Quarter Workshop: - August 2006 "Cultural Competence"

Lots of discussion on what this workshop should look like. With assistance from Virginia, we decided to change the format, with the initial part being about self assessment in attitudes and biases. Virginia has agreed to present with her coworker, Leslie. They will assist with the professionals looking at their biases and attitudes, related to building relationships. This will take place in the morning and in the afternoon we could arrange a panel with all sorts of real life people (i.e. parents, youth in care, ethnicities, etc.) We would facilitate a discussion taking into consideration our current culture, socio-economic differences, etc. More details need to be worked out in future meetings. We all agreed to talk to our staff and clients about possible questions.

4th Quarter Training: - "Holiday Triggers" (Katie)

Educational Conference:

• Beth did brochure and we voted on format. full size rather than folded
• Keynote: Marguerite McCormick - "Secondary Trauma"
• Looked at last year’s budget regarding catering and decided to go with $17 per person for both breakfast and lunch. Want to make it special. Renee is working with the Chef.
• Katie - Awards update, as well as sponsorships???
• Renee is talking with one of the presenters about his specifics.
• Renee will talk with Coffee bar people.
• Gifts???
• Annual Conference: "Staying on Track" - June 23rd, 2006
• We all need to get back to Beth by end of week regarding brochure.

Other Business: Made some contacts with CAFCA memberships about new members, but it is a slow process. Denise talked with Tennyson and Renee talked with Beacon. Carol (Excelsior) has difficulty with the current time, but may be able to attend by phone.
