Job Description:  Executive Director

 

MISSION : CSFPA is committed to supporting foster care through education, advocacy and the provision of resources for Colorado foster parents.

 

OVERVIEW:

The Executive Director (ED) will work closely with the Office Manager and with the Executive Board.  The ED shall possess strong public relations skills, be able to and enjoy interfacing with public entities such as the Colorado Department of Human Services, County Departments of Human Services, Child Placement Agencies, and foster/adoptive parents.  He/she should have organizational skills, be able to work independently and collaboratively with others.  He/she should also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate his/her ability to work efficiently and under pressure.  The ED should have a strong desire to support foster families and have knowledge of or a willingness to learn about the child welfare system and about non-profit organizations. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CSFPA EMPLOYEE:

  1. Performs all responsibilities in a manner that is reflective of the mission and philosophy of CSFPA. 
  2. Is sensitive to the cultural differences among children, families and constituents and responds appropriately and sensitively to those differences. 
  3. Attends and participates in CSFPA assigned meetings and committees.
  4. Performs and presents in a professional manner in all assigned functions.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  1. Attends and contributes to the CSFPA Board meetings and to the State/County Department of Human Services meetings, as requested.
  2. Works with the conference/education committee to develop and implement educational workshops, including the annual CSFPA conference.
  3. Researches, composes, and submits grants. 
  4. Works collaboratively with the Board to develop and implement the annual budget.
  5. Provides fiscal oversight and reports to the Board as requested.
  6. Develops and implements CSFPA’s recruitment, retention and recognition programs in conjunction with other entities. 
  7. Develops educational and membership materials.
  8. Prepares the CSFPA newsletter for publication and distribution.
  9. Manages staffing of office and oversees office procedures. 
  10. Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Board.

 

PERFERED QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  2. Ability to work independently

Position Title: Executive Director

 

Overall Responsibilities

 

The Adoption Alliance seeks an experienced, creative, visionary leader to fill the position of Executive Director (ED). The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission, vision and financial objectives. The ED will have the confidence, experience, and professional passion to drive the organization forward and instill confidence throughout the rest of the organization that there is a vision and a path by which the vision can be achieved. 

Specific strategic responsibilities include:

1.      Collaborate with the Board to assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission.  The ED must also provide leadership to the staff to assure consistent and timely progress in delivering all strategic initiatives.

2.      Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board.

3.      Must act as a “public champion” for the agency. The candidate will possess the ability to influence thought leaders within the community, promote community awareness and public relations with other agencies and have the ability to cultivate gifts at a strategic philanthropy level.

4.      Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field. Assist at coordinating agency services with those provided by other community resources.

In relations with staff, the Executive Director will:

1.      Be responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.

2.      Oversee all agency programs, including: domestic and international adoptions; foster care; parent education; administration of government contracts; and agency accreditation.

3.      Foster an effective management team, and ensure appropriate provisions for succession are in place.

4.      Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the organization.

5.      Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.

 

Regarding the budget and finances, the Executive Director will:

1.      Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.

2.      Work with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

3.      Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.

Education and Experience Requirements

 

§          Must possess strong leadership qualities. A qualified candidate will have the ability to lead by persuasion and be able to create shared visions among the staff.  This person will also exhibit executive leadership qualities and be able to take decisive action when needed.

§           Non-profit experience preferred.

§          Knowledge of adoption and foster care services preferred, however would consider other experience in social services or non-profit industries. 

§          Master’s degree preferred with minimum thirty (30) semester credits or equivalent quarter credits in social or behavioral sciences.

§          10+ years full time work experience with a minimum of 3  years in a leadership capacity, 

§          Other experience preferred would include policy and procedure development and implementation, strategic planning, budget responsibility, fiscal management, quality assurance, networking, human resources management, program development and oversight, and business management.

 

Salary Range :   Compensation commiserate w/ experience

Purpose: Provide strategic direction and leadership to achieve outcomes of The Education

Center and the AdoptUsKids Training and Technical Assistance contract.

Primary responsibilities include:

Expand, market and direct the programs and services of the Education Center

Develop revenues, budgets and monitor financial expenditures of the Education Center

and its contracts

Lead and supervise the management team of the Education Center

Participate as active member of The Adoption Exchange’s Senior Management Team

Provide strategic leadership on the evaluation of potential new program initiatives,

trends, technology, regulations, alliances and other issues impacting the future of the

organization

Identify, build and sustain strong collaborative relationships within the national and state

child welfare service community and the community at large

Oversees the data management services of The Adoption Exchange, Inc.

Provide oversight and direction of the AdoptUsKids Training and Technical Assistance

(T/TA) services. Direct responsibilities include:

o Supervise the Training and Technical Assistance Manager

o Coordinate efforts with the AdoptUsKids collaborating partners to ensure

o Plan and conduct Regional Roundtables

o Build relationships with State-level program managers and ACF Regional Office

o Represent T/TA services at Children’s Bureau meetings and conferences

Monitor and assure quality of training and technical assistance services including the

evaluation of outcomes and the performance of consultants

  5. Assists in the development and distribution of the CSFPA newsletter.
  6. Assists the Executive Director in developing the annual CSFPA budget for Board approval.
  7. Prepares checks for signature.  Maintains an accurate check register and has regular contact with the CSFPA accountant.
  8. Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Board.

 

PERFERED QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Public relation skills
  2. Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  3. Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Word and Excel 
  4. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and grant writing experience a plus
